Campaign for Conserving Groundwater held in Patna

Patna, September 11, 2025: Water For People India, under its flagship Guardians of Groundwater Campaign, in collaboration with the Development Management Institute (DMI), Patna, organized “Yuva Ki Lehar” – a student awareness session on groundwater conservation at Meeting Mind Hall, DMI, on September 11, 2025.

The session was inaugurated with the screening of a special promo video by renowned filmmaker and campaign brand ambassador Imtiaz Ali, who called upon youth across India to join the movement and become “Guardians of Groundwater.”

Mr. Lalit Mohan Sharma, Principal Scientist at the SM Sehgal Foundation and a key speaker at this event, engaged students in an insightful discussion on the growing groundwater crisis, its links to climate change, and the need for sustainable management of water resources.

Water For People organised a campaign for conserving groundwater at DMI, Patna.

Prof. Gaurav Mishra, Prof. Geetika Mishra and other faculty members from DMI, along with Vivek Sharan, Safdar Ali, and Faiyaz Iqbal from Water For People, joined the session. Students of the development management program actively participated in the dialogue, brainstorming solutions, and collectively took a pledge to conserve water and act as change-makers in their communities.

Speaking at the event, representatives emphasised that groundwater is India’s invisible lifeline—supporting drinking water and agriculture—but is under severe stress due to rapid urbanisation, over-extraction, and climate variability. Engaging youth is key to reversing this trend and ensuring a water-secure future.

“Yuva Ki Lehar” is part of a series of youth engagement initiatives being rolled out across the country under the Guardians of Groundwater Campaign. The program aims to empower young leaders to raise awareness, influence their peers, and promote innovative actions to protect this critical resource.
