Amid exit polls hinting at NDA comeback, Tejashwi claims a ‘decisive mandate’ for Mahagathbandhan

Although many exit polls have predicted an NDA victory, DB Live (130-144) and Journo Mirror (130-140) are showing Mahaghathbandhan coming to the helm.

Amid exit polls predicting a return of the NDA government in Bihar, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav stressed on Wednesday that the people have given a mandate for Mahagathbandhan. He spoke to the media after the final round of voting concluded on Tuesday, which also witnessed record-breaking polling.

Exuding confidence, Tejashwi Yadav, in his second press conference in three days, reiterated that the Mahagathbandhan would form the government, with him taking the oath on 18th November.

He thanked the people for the historic and record-high turnout at the polls and for voting for change. He said that we are getting even more positive feedback than in 1995. The then Janata Dal swept the poll, winning 167 of the 324 seats since Jharkhand was also part of Bihar.

Although many surveys have predicted NDA returning to power, DB Live (130-144) and Journo Mirror (130-140) are showing Mahaghathbandhan coming to the helm. Many observers believe that, due to the survey’s smaller sample size, exit polls are not foolproof. In fact, exit polls proved wrong in the last two state elections.

In a previous press conference on Monday, Tejashwi had asked the Election Commission why only the security forces of the BJP-ruled state had arrived for the election. Tejashwi Yadav had also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his ‘Katta’ remark, saying that the PM has been instigating abuse against Bihar and the Bihari world over. PM should have discussed development, jobs and employment. ‘I don’t know which web series he is watching these days, ‘ he quipped.

The mahagathbandhan CM candidate reiterated his promise to give 30,000 rupees to women on 14th January every year under ‘Maa Bahin Man Yojna’, a scheme that would provide financial assistance to women and their families. He also reinforced his pledge to give a job to every such family in Bihar that has no existing representation in government jobs.

Understanding the apprehension in some quarters about law and order if the RJD-led alliance comes to power, Tejashwi assured that there will be no compromise and even if his shadow is guilty, it will receive strict punishment. He pledged to send all criminals to jail between 26th November and 26th January after coming to power, stressing there would be no compromise on crime, corruption and communalism.

Tejashwi’s job promise is popular among youth from various backgrounds; the election result will reveal whether they trust him to provide job opportunities.
